Haridwar

Lakshmi Niwas Haridwar

The Kumbhmela is perhaps the largest mass gathering of people on the planet, and the town of Haridwar on the banks of the Ganges, is perhaps the best place to witness the same. It is believed that a dip in the river will rid you of your sins and cleanse your ‘atma’ and there is no better place / time to do it, than at the KumbhMela. The streets and corners become home to the sadhus who have travelled far to reach Haridwar and are often stark naked but for the ash that they smear upon their bodies. Holy chants can be heard across every part of the city, enveloping the whole town in a spiritual blanket. It is here, in the midst of all this spiritual bustle yet comfortably aloof from its melee, that Lakshmi Niwas offers its guests a peaceful and comfortable abode in ten beautifully laid out en-suite tents overlooking the holy river and offering every modern amenity.

Lakshmi Niwas is located within walking distance of major ashrams, temples and the bazars. Guided tours are offered around the town and the KumbhMela, apart from spiritual interactions with learned Hindu gurus and sadhus.

A day at the retreat winds up with the evening ‘Aarti’ (prayer), followed by dinner at the retreat’s dining hall that offers tastefully prepared traditional Indian vegetarian delicacies.

Each villa has a private courtyard, a poolside private sit out, and a yoga deck on the upper level.

Every package offers daily yoga and meditation sessions, apart from Ayurvedic massages and consultations with Ayurveda practitioners. Chhatra Sagar

Chhatra Sagar

Water is a precious and life giving resource in the desert. Perhaps due to its scarcity, the importance of water conservation and harvesting is deeply understood and since time immemorial, commissioning any project which harvested or conserved water was considered one of the prime responsibilities of those in power. In the late nineteenth century, Thakur Chhatra Singh of Nimaj, a powerful noble of the desert kingdom of Marwar (Jodhpur), decided to dam a seasonal stream flowing through his estate. His vision was to create a water reservoir which would harvest the monsoon rains. It was an ambitious project and a great drain on his resources but Thakur Chhatra Singh remained true to his vision.
The dam was completed in 1890 and changed the dry scrub into prime agricultural land. Farmers struggling for sustenance on parched lands were invited by Thakur Chhatra Singh to settle around the reservoir. The reservoir was named Chhatra Sagar in his memory.By early twentieth century Chhatra Sagar had developed into a lush green oasis. With its wide open spaces and enchanting views, it became the entertainment venue of choice. To capture the outdoor “big sky” feel of the place, permanent construction was deliberately kept to a minimum. A fresh luxury tented camp was created for each party. For many dignitaries visiting Nimaj, “Camp Chhatra Sagar” was the highlight. Legendary sporting parties with high tea and exotic dinners became a regular feature. The famed “Camp Chhatra Sagar” has been recreated by the great grand children of Thakur Chhatra Singh.

Sujan Raj Mahal Palace

The Royal Standard of the House of Amber still flutters above Rajmahal Palace, one of the oldest and most treasured palaces in the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur. Only the City Palace and the royal family’s private forts hold this distinction. Home to the Maharaja of Jaipur, this exquisite royal palace is located at the heart of Rajasthan’s bustling capital. An enclosed oasis, secluded in verdant gardens, Rajmahal Palace is the repository of a celebrated history. Tall bay windows, mirrored doors and meticulously appointed interiors allow guests to be transported to a new era of 21st century regal living. Conceived by H.H Sawai Jai Singh II as a private palace, a garden retreat, built for his beloved wife, Chandra Kanwar Ranawat ji, the daughter of the Maharana of Mewar, Rajmahal Palace has stood witness to over two hundred and fifty years of history. In 1821, Rajmahal became the official residence of the British Resident Political Officer of Rajputana and in 1958 His Highness Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II of Jaipur – the celebrated and dashing ‘Jai’ – chose it as his personal private residence. Over the decades this remarkable Palace has hosted Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, as well as several other members of the British Royal Family, and eminent international celebrities such as Jackie Kennedy, Lord and Lady Mountbatten, and the Shah of Iran. Following a carefully orchestrated restoration by the prodigious designer Adil Ahmad, this palace continues to embody the heritage of its past, maintaining the original, stunning marble staircase, elaborate chandeliers, and treasured family possessions. Initially comprising 14 Royal Apartments, Suites and Palace Rooms we invite guests to be a part of Rajmahal Palace and share its history and hospitality.

Singinawa Kanha

Oscar Wilde's famous quote 'Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life' resonates across The Singhinawa Jungle Lodge where time, nature and the evolution of the human spirit seamlessly interweave a tapestry of wonderment at the Museum of Life and Art. Nestled congruously within the estate, the 1,000 square foot museum is an ode to the indigenous Gond and Baiga artisans and their labors of love. Mirroring the undulating curves of the forest, the museum is designed to host pieces of art that are placed in a fashion that allows the viewer to glide through a visual escapade without being bound by the realms of soporific and predictable patterns. An allegorical homage to the free spirit of nature, the museum will also host art installations in the open with a focus on the ethos of Kanha.

While appreciation of art may be food for the soul, one may always feel the urge to sit back and absorb the beauty over refreshments which will be available at a café within the precincts of the museum. Now there’s the perfect plan all ready to be explored!

Nimaj

Nimaj Palace

One of the Oldest Heritage property of the Country running as a hotel, which makes you relive the medieval era in its 22 ALL-SUITES accommodation. Over the centuries the Thakurs of Nimaj refurbished the palace as per their likes which even today evokes a feeling of awe and reverence and the imposing gates remind you of the chivalrous days. The palace facade carved in red sand stone makes it a distinctive landmark in the architectural history of India. Many typical Indian Motifs and designs used here have to be seen to be believed which gives the palace a unique flavour.

As you enter 'Loha Pole' the towering gates and pass by the 'Dalwans' (country kin's sit-outs) the touch of royalty is instantly apparent. When you stop in the courtyard (chowk) even a casual glance will make you appreciate its distinctive architecture.

Guests are given a traditional Palace welcome out side "Dari - Khanna" (a hall with arches which was once the Durbar Hall of the Thakurs, where they greeted dignitaries, met people and carried out routine orders.) The Indian saying goes 'Atithi Devo Bhava' which means 'A Guest is God'. So we greet you with warmth and garland you with string of marigold, anoint you with 'tikka' (an auspicious red dot) and perform the 'aarti'. You can then soak in the warmth of Palace ambience with a soothing welcome drink.

Castle Bijaipur

Located in the Vindhyanchal Hills at 600 meters above sea level, surrounded by graceful forests of Flame of the Forest & Jaracanda overlooking the farmlands in the valley, Castle Bijaipur is the ultimate place where history, nature and hospitality form unison. It is not just a retreat that will leave you breathless with the enchantment of its surroundings, but assists in redefining lifestyles to include the well-known Indian traditions of life and hospitality.

The 16th century Castle, situated in fortified walls, was converted to a hotel in 1991 by the ruling family. The Castle is still home to the ruling family who run it not as a hotel but as a ‘HOME’ where people can come and experience traditional Rajput hospitality – First hand.

Once inside the Castle, time stands still and transfers you to the bygone era. Heritage here is not just about antiques and artefacts – it is more about the culture that is alive inside, about the experiences that are surprisingly genuine, about smiling faces that feel pride in sharing what they call – HERITAGE.

Ecotones Camps

Ecotones was born out of a passion to bring guests closer to nature. While most hotels and resorts utilize the beauty of nature and the wilderness to sell themselves, there are very few that give back to nature or contribute to conservation in any way. Eco-tourism—responsible travel to natural areas that does not damage the environment, contributes to its conservation, and improves the well-being of local people—is an ethical option and Ecotones attempts to imbibe this culture in its true sense. Guests can indulge in nature-oriented exploratory activities such as bird watching and nature trails or can just sit back and enjoy the scenic view. With activities such as cycling and guided nature walks, we hope to take people one step closer to nature—and inculcate an interest for the natural world through observation and learning about its many intricacies.

Kanha Earth Lodge lies in 16 acres of natural forest, tucked away in a small hamlet bordering Kanha’s buffer zone. Its unique location, 30 minutes from the Khatia/Kisli park gate, ensures that it is close enough for easy access to the park, but still far enough from the glut of lining hotels in Kanha National Park tourist hub to offer guests a true wilderness experience. Our guests benefit from our incredible location, outstanding hospitality, experienced team of naturalists, and commitment towards conservation and local communities. The 12 luxury bungalows with en suite bathrooms and open verandahs have been inspired by Gond tribal architecture and offer environmentally sensitive, low-impact accommodation through their design and use of local stone and waste wood, while the absence of neighbouring lodges or highways creates an ideal setting for nature walks, birding and cycling trips through the surrounding forest.
