Information about Visas for India

It is mandatory for all International travellers to have a valid visa before they travel to India. The visa information provided in this section is for British passport holders who are citizens and residents of the United Kingdom only. Non-UK passport holders should consult with the relevant Embassy, High Commission or Consulate.

The Indian Visa application process

The Indian High Commission has outsourced visa applications to a company called VFS Global. Your visas are processed by VFS and you need to follow the steps listed below for your application.

Step 1: You will need to fill in the Indian visa application form online. This can be done by going to http://www.indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/. You will be provided the option to pay your visa fees online.

For more information about the application form please refer to http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk

To complete the form, you will need your passport details and the names and addresses of two referees, one in the UK and one in India. Kerala Travel Centre clients can speak with one of our experts to obtain details of the referee in India.

Step 2: Print the application form off and sign it as indicated.

Step 3: Post the signed form along with your passport and any other relevant documents to the Indian Embassy Postal Visa Centre at the address below

India Visa Application Centre
1-3, Canalside,
Uxbridge Road
Hayes, Middlesex, UB4 0JN

Documents required for your Indian Visa Application

To apply for an Indian tourist visa, you will be expected to submit the following documents -

  • Passport valid for at least 7 months.
  • Two photographs. The size must be 50mm x 50mm. These are bigger than the standard passport photos and are available at most photo booths in Post offices and Tescos.
  • Completed Visa Application form. The visa form must be completed online on the embassy website as advised above.
  • Signed declaration form. (Click here to download the declaration form)
  • For children (under 16), a copy of the full birth certificate (which mentions the father’s and mother’s full name) is required along with a consent letter from both parents and their passport copies.

Important Notes

  • It generally takes 14 working days for your visas to be issued so it is advisable that you apply for your visas well in time. If you have concerns about not getting your visas in time, you can use services of visa management companies who can process your visas in 4-5 working days for a fee. For more details about our preferred partner refer to details at the end of the page.
  • Please note that Indian visas are valid from the date of issue and not the date of travel.
  • Although a tourist visa is usually issued for multiple entries, there has to be a gap of 2 months between the exit from India and the re-entry. If you wish to travel back to India in less than two months from exit, you need to request a double entry tourist visa. A copy of your air ticket is required in this case.
  • Please note your passport number when travelling and keep it separate from your passport as this will help the British Consulate to supply a temporary passport in the case of loss.

For more information about visas, you could visit the VFS website on http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk.

For the convenience of our clients, Kerala Travel Centre has partnered with Visa Genie who is our preferred visa management company. To apply for your visa through Visa Genie you could contact them on 0208 843 1247 or visit their website www.visagenie.co.uk for more information.
