Cochin, or Kochi as it is now called, is divided into Old Cochin (comprising Fort Cochin and Mattanchery) and Ernakulam, which is a bustling metropolis and is considered the commercial capital of Kerala. It is the only district in Kerala where you can experience urban comforts on a par with other major cities in India and also the history of many centuries bygone.

Set in the the foothills of the Western Ghats mountain ranges, Kothamangalam is a town rich in spice plantations. The town provides easy access to the Elephant sanctuary situated nearby.

Detailed Itinerary

Day ONE +-
  • Day 01 - Arrival Cochin

Welcomed by India Travel Centre representative at the airport and transferred to your hotel. A port town since early centuries, Cochin, also known as the spice coast of India, attracted traders and invaders from the world over. Needless to say, Cochin offers you some fascinating snippets of history and culture. Relax and unwind at the hotel. In the evening go for a relaxing sunset cruise. Overnight at the hotel.   • Day 02 - Cochin

Go for an optional sightseeing tour to explore the many fascinating highlights of Cochin which include - the Jewish Synagogue in what is locally called the Jew Town, St. Francis Church which is the oldest European Church in India, the Santa Cruz Basilica built in 1557 by the Portuguese, the Dutch Palace, the Spice market and the 15th century Chinese fishing nets. In the evening, enjoy the famous dance drama of Kerala, the Kathakali. This dance is characterised by some great story telling. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle at disposal)
Day THREE +-
  • Day 03 - Cochin - Kothamangalam (60kms/1.5hrs)

Drive to Kothamangalam and spend the afternoon at leisure in a century old estate bungalow set in over 100 acres of multi crop plantation. Apart from exploring the estate you visit the local bird sanctuary. Participate in cookery demonstrations involving authentic Kerala cuisine. Overnight at the Estate Bungalow.   • Day 04 - Kothamangalam

In the morning drive to the Kodanad elephant orphanage where you will have the opportunity to get close to the elephants. Elephant rides will also be possible. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at the Estate Bungalow. (Full Board) (Vehicle at disposal)
Day FIVE +-
  • Day 05 - Kothamangalam - Munnar (90kms/3hrs)

Drive to Munnar a hill station which was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British administration in South India. Munnar still retains its colonial charm and is famous for its sprawling tea plantations. Check-in to your hotel and unwind. Day at leisure. In the evening visit the tea museum. Day SIX +-
  • Day 06 - Munnar

Day at leisure. Take a short trip to the Eravikulam National Park or simply walk through the tea estates and enjoy the tranquility it provides. Overnight at the resort. (Vehicle at disposal)

  • Day 07 - Munnar - Periyar (110kms/4hrs)

Drive to Periyar an area known for its undulating hills, spice plantations, and elephant sightings. One of the 27 tiger reserves in India, the Periyar valley in Thekkady is the oldest. Check-in to your hotel. Go on a spice plantation tour today where you will be enticed by the aroma of spices. Overnight at the resort. (Vehicle at disposal)

  • Day 08 - Periyar

Today you could for an escorted jungle trek and also engage in activities like bamboo rafting or take a boat ride on the lake. Overnight at the resort.

  • Day 09 - Periyar - Kumarakom (130kms/4hrs)

Drive to Kumarakom, the enchanting backwater region of Kerala and check-in to your resort. The labyrinthine network of rivers, canals, streams and lagoons which form the famed backwaters offer stunning views and is an ideal place to relax. Day at leisure. Overnight at the resort. Day TEN +-
  • Day 10 - Kumarakom

Spend the day at leisure at the resort or you could take up activities like canoeing, water scooter rides, boat rides, etc. Enjoy a rejuvenating Ayurveda full-body massage. Overnight at the resort. (Vehicle at disposal)
Day ELEVEN +-
  • Day 11 - Kumarakom - Houseboat

Embark on your private houseboat from the resort and cruise on the Backwaters, a splendid area full of canals, lakes and coves. Your houseboats or 'Kettuvalloms' are luxurious boats with well appointed bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms. You can sunbathe on the deck or observe the palm fringed landscape from your cabins. Apart from the mesmerizing surroundings it's the life along the river banks that makes this a fascinating experience. Overnight on board. (Full Board)

  • Day 12 - Houseboat - Marari (20kms/0.5hrs)

  • Day 14 - Marari - Cochin - Departure (75kms/2hrs)

When Should I go?

Being a coastal state surrounded by the Arabian Sea and because of its proximity to the equator, Kerala has a more or less consistent temperature pattern in the summers and the monsoons alike. The temperature hovers around 29°C throughout the year with varying levels of humidity.

Monsoon Months in Kerala

June and July are monsoon months in Kerala, the showers being heavy at first and then easing off gradually. Whilst these are not the best months for tours, interestingly, this happens to the best time for travellers seeking the therapeutic Ayurveda treatment which is said to be most effective in these months.

Best months for travel to Kerala

The months of October through to March are considered to be the most favourable months to travel to Kerala when the weather is sunny and pleasant. The months of April and May are also favourable for travel but the humidity tends to be comparatively higher. August and September are also good months for travel.
