1 Calicut
Once the capital of the powerful Zamorin rulers of North Kerala and a prominent trade and commerce centre, Calicut was the most important region in Kerala in ancient times. The great voyager, Vasco Da Gama, landed here in 1498 putting it on the world map and paving the way for the west and for the many traders and invaders who followed suit.

2 Wayanad
With an altitude ranging up to 2,000 meters above sea level, Wayanad, located in the Western Ghats of Kerala is an area which offers breathtaking locations. Mist-clad hills, lush green paddy fields, luxuriant sub-tropical rainforests, sprawling spice plantations, valleys and hills mark this beautiful place. Hidden away in the hills of this land are some of the oldest tribes as yet untouched by civilization. Wayanad spreads across about 2,000 sq kms of the Western Ghats and is recognised as a leading bio diversity region.

3 Tellicherry
Thalassery (or Tellicherry as the British christened it during the times of the Raj), a vibrant fishing town in the north of Calicut which is famous for the 3 C's- Circus, Cricket and Cakes. It is known for being the first British settlement in Kerala and needless to say Cakes and Cricket were both introduced here by the British.

4 Neeleshwaram
Neeleswaram is a quiant world of paddy fields, garden compounds, shrines, temples and mosques, and  follows a lovely coastline along which lie traditional fishing villages where boats and nets are made and repaired.

6 Cochin

Cochin, or Kochi as it is now called, is divided into Old Cochin (comprising Fort Cochin and Mattanchery) and Ernakulam, which is a bustling metropolis and is considered the commercial capital of Kerala. It is the only district in Kerala where you can experience urban comforts on a par with other major cities in India and also the history of many centuries bygone.

Detailed Itinerary

Day ONE +-
  • DAY 01: Arrival Calicut
Welcomed by a Kerala Travel Centre representative at the Calicut International Airport and transferred to your hotel. Check into your hotel, relax and unwind. Calicut, the traditional capital of North Kerala, is a leading trade centre for spices on the west coast. In the evening, visit the Hindustan Kalari Sangam, a traditional martial arts centre, where you can witness Kalaripayattu, the martial art of Kerala.

Day TWO +-
  • DAY 02: Calicut - Wayanad (80 km / 3.5 hrs)
Drive to Sultan Bathery in Wayanad. Set in the picturesque Western Ghats and mountains at an altitude of about 2,000 meters above sea level,Wayanad is littered with tropical rainforests, dense hills, rolling paddy fields, spice plantations and valleys, Wayanad is a hitherto undiscovered location offering breathtaking views. You will also visit the Edakkal Caves - a pre-historic rock shelter formed naturally from one boulder resting atop others to form a roof.

Day THREE +-
  • DAY 03: Wayanad
Explore the Wayanad sanctuary where you can find animals like sloth bears, sambhar (wild deer), elephants, monkeys, tigers, reptiles, panthers and many species of rare birds. In the afternoon, drive to Kuruva Island, an uninhabited cluster of islands in the middle of the expansive Kabini river. The island’s preservation and ecotourism is managed by the local population and the forest department. Your guide will navigate your way around the island while offering knowledge about the island's general environment and ecology. The guide can take you to the less trodden paths you would have otherwise missed. Though you can tour Kuruva Island without a guide, the company of an experienced guide makes the experience educational, while also ensuring you explore the entire island.

Day FOUR +-
  • DAY 04: Wayanad
Go for a guided trek in the Wayanad sanctuary. Later visit the 3,000-year-old Thirunelly temple located near the Papanashini stream. This temple is devoted to Vishnu, one of the primary deities of Hinduism. Spend the rest of the day relaxing.

Day FIVE +-
  • DAY 05: Wayanad - Tellicherry (160 km / 4 hrs)
Drive to Thalassery, or Tellicherry as the British christened it during their rule of India, a vibrant fishing town in the north of Calicut which is famous for the three C's- circus, cricket and cakes. It is known for being the first British settlement in Kerala and, needless to say, cakes and cricket were both introduced by the British. Check into the majestic Ayesha Manzil. Enjoy the colourful Theyyam dance in the temple near the resort and have an evening of leisure.

Day SIX +-
  • DAY 06: Tellicherry
Explore the bustling fish markets of Tellicherry or visit the ancient fort built by the British. You could also drive to the fascinating Muzhipillangad Beach - Kerala’s only drive-in beach, where you can drive along miles of virgin, white sands or laze on the beach and be mesmerized by the beauty of the place. In the evening, take part in a cookery demonstration by Faiza, your hostess, who is renowned for her Mopilla cuisine.

Day SEVEN +-
  • DAY 07: Tellicherry - Neeleshwaram (150 km / 4 hrs)
Drive to Neeleshwar Hermitage in Neeleshwaram. It is reminiscent of the typical villages in Kerala. Closely resembling the huts found in the rural areas, Neeleshwar Hermitage is refreshingly different from the more formal places of stay. Have a relaxing day to explore.

Day EIGHT +-
  • DAY 08: Neeleshwaram
Go for a cycling tour of Neeleshwaram - bicycling is the ideal way to explore this region. Behind the resort stretches a large network of small roads and lanes giving the visitor a wonderful glimpse of local life. You will enter a world of paddy fields, garden compounds, shrines, temples and mosques. You can follow the coastline along and see the traditional fishing villages where boats and nets are made and repaired.

Day NINE +-
  • DAY 10: Neeleshwaram - Calicut
Participate in a cookery class with mostly local cuisine being prepared under the resident chef. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure for your own activities.

Day TEN +-
  • DAY 10: Neeleshwaram - Calicut (160 km / 4 hrs)
Drive to Calicut (Kozhikode). Once the capital of the powerful Zamorins, Hindu Eradi rulers of the area from the 12th to the 18th century, it is a historical town. Calicut was a significant port for trade and commerce in the early centuries, and Calico cotton is believed to have originated here. Upon arrival, enjoy a relaxing, full-body Ayurveda massage at the resort. Spend the evening relaxing.

Day ELEVEN +-
  • DAY 11: Calicut - Athirampally (184 km / 5 hrs)
Drive to Athirapally and en route visit Guruvayoor, the temple town near Thrissur. One of the most sacred and important pilgrim centres in Kerala, the main attraction in Guruvayoor is the Sree Krishna Temple. Though non-Hindus are not permitted inside this temple, exploring the streets leading to the main temple entrance is a fascinating experience. After exploring the temple, you will carry on to Athirapally. The charm of Athirampally and Vazhachal waterfalls cannot be described in words. Perched high above the Sholayar forest ranges on the fringes of Kerala's famed rainforests, the Athirampally waterfalls provide a restful escape for those wanting to leave the hurried pace of city life behind. Relax amidst the scenic attractions of Vazhachal.

Day TWELVE +-
  • DAY 12: Athirampally - Cochin (85 km / 2 hrs)
Drive to Cochin in the morning and check into your hotel. A port town since early centuries, Cochin, also known as the spice coast of India, attracted traders and invaders from the world over. Needless to say, Cochin offers some fascinating snippets of history and culture. In the evening, you could go for a relaxing sunset cruise.

Day THIRTEEN +-
  • DAY 13: Cochin

Go for a sightseeing tour to explore the many fascinating highlights of Cochin; including, the Jewish Synagogue; St. Francis Church, the oldest European Church in India; the Santa Cruz Basilica, which was built in 1557 by the Portuguese; the Dutch Palace; the Spice Market; and the 15th century Chinese fishing nets believed to have been brought by Chinese traders. In the evening, visit an auditorium to watch the famous, traditional dance drama of Kerala, the Kathakali. This dance is characterised by intricate storytelling, amazing costumes and extensive make-up.

When Should I go?

Being a coastal state surrounded by the Arabian Sea and because of its proximity to the equator, Kerala has a more or less consistent temperature pattern in the summers and the monsoons alike. The temperature hovers around 29°C throughout the year with varying levels of humidity.

Monsoon Months in Kerala

June and July are monsoon months in Kerala, the showers being heavy at first and then easing off gradually. Whilst these are not the best months for tours, interestingly, this happens to the best time for travellers seeking the therapeutic Ayurveda treatment which is said to be most effective in these months.

Best months for travel to Kerala

The months of October through to March are considered to be the most favourable months to travel to Kerala when the weather is sunny and pleasant. The months of April and May are also favourable for travel but the humidity tends to be comparatively higher. August and September are also good months for travel.
