Overview
Ramathra Fort is a 17th century fortress in the far interior of eastern Rajasthan, set between Bharatpur and Ranthambore, with Kailadevi Wildlife Sanctuary close by. The fort was granted as a jagir to Thakur Bhoj Pal by the Maharaja of Karauli and has remained an ancestral home for more than ten generations.
Today it is cared for by Thakur Brijendra Raj Pal and his family, with Ravi Raj Pal, Gitanjali Rajpal and Uditchandra Pal shaping a stay that feels personal, rooted and quietly wild. The fort sits above Kalisil Lake, rural hamlets and the surrounding hills, so days can be as gentle as reading on the terrace or as active as walking, birding, boating and exploring nearby villages.
The experience is especially rewarding for travellers who want Rajasthan beyond the usual palace cities. Ramathra combines heritage, family hospitality, conservation work and a strong sense of place, with private wilderness drives, lake picnics, sunset boating and easy extensions to Karauli or Ranthambore.
