The Denmark Tavern

Overview

Why stay at The Denmark Tavern

The Denmark Tavern sits in Serampore, the former Danish trading outpost once known as Frederiksnagore. First opened in 1786 and restored more than two centuries later, the property gives travellers an intimate way to experience the town's layered European and Bengali heritage.

The restoration was part of the Serampore Initiative, with the National Museum of Denmark, Realdania, the state heritage commission and INTACH helping revive one of the town's most atmospheric addresses. The result is a small, characterful retreat with English-Indian architecture, Scandi-chic touches and warm hospitality.

With six vintage suites, curated dining and culturally rooted experiences, The Denmark Tavern suits travellers looking for an authentic heritage stop near Kolkata, as well as intimate gatherings and bespoke private stays.
