Rajasthan is a landscape of formidable fortifications and grand palaces that rise from the harsh soil, of proud warrior clans, men with fierce moustaches and demure women, of vivid fabrics and exquisite jewellery and craft. One can't deny that the Golden Triangle became popular for a reason, Delhi, the capital of India, The Taj Mahal and the City Palace and Amber Fort in Jaipur are all impressive sights and on the wish list of most first time travellers to India. However, in visiting these sights, one remains in big bustling cities, being hassled by beggars and touts and it is easy to form an impression based on this alone. But, if one ventures out into the more rural destinations, one can meet the rural population of India, the true heart of the country and have an incredibly wonderful and at times humbling experience. The generosity of these people who on paper may have little is overwhelming and when ones see's how rich their simple lives can be and despite this, the hospitality that they offer to any visitor to their village is truly an experience one will never forget. It is also easy to rush through India ticking of sights as you go, which can leave one with an overwhelming sense of chaos but if one slows down, and gets to know an area and the people, one can have a far more rewarding journey. On this tour of Rajasthan, along with the ancient city of Delhi, also the capital of modern India and Mumbai, its financial hub, you will experience the enormous contradictions and the diverse facets of its vibrant culture that go into making India what it is.
