1 Guruvayoor
One of the most sacred and important pilgrim centres in Kerala, Guruvayoor is a temple town whose main attraction is the famous Sree Krishna Temple here. Whilst only Hindus are allowed entry into the main sanctum of the temple, a walk around the premises is still very inspiring.

2 Cochin

Cochin, or Kochi as it is now called, is divided into Old Cochin (comprising Fort Cochin and Mattanchery) and Ernakulam, which is a bustling metropolis and is considered the commercial capital of Kerala. It is the only district in Kerala where you can experience urban comforts on a par with other major cities in India and also the history of many centuries bygone.

5 Kollam
Kollam is one of the oldest sea port towns on the Malabar Coast. Its strategic location with regards to trade made it the subject of writers such as Marco Polo who recorded it as one of the leading trade capitals of the Old World. The magnificent Ashtamudi Lake, which is also known as the gateway to the magnificent backwaters of Kerala, covers one third of Kollam.

Kovalam is a beach town by the Arabian Sea in Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala, India, located around 16 km from the city center. Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and true to its name the village offers an endless sight of coconut trees.

Detailed Itinerary

Day ONE +-
  • DAY 01: Arrive Cochin - Guruvayoor (80 km / 2.5 hrs)
Greeted by a Kerala Travel Centre representative at the airport and transferred to Guruvayoor, the temple town near Thrissur, also known as the cultural capital of Kerala. Check into your hotel. One of the most sacred and important pilgrim centres in Kerala, the main attraction in Guruvayoor is the Sree Krishna Temple. Relax and unwind on your first day. Overnight at the Krishna Inn with a vehicle provided for your transfer.
Day TWO +-
  • DAY 02: Guruvayoor
Total biking distance: 15 km Terrain: Plain
Cycling starts with a tour around the town giving you the opportunity to see the many cultural attractions of Guruvayoor, ending at the Punathoor Kotta, the elephant sanctuary. The palace ground of the erstwhile Kings of Punnathoor houses an elephant camp with more than 60 elephants and is said to be the only one of its kind anywhere in the world. In the evening, see a demonstration of Kalaripayattu, the Martial Arts of Kerala.

Day THREE +-
  • DAY 03: Guruvayoor - Cochin
Total biking distance: 70 km Terrain: Plain
Start early in the morning and cycle through the coastal back roads towards Fort Kochi, the cultural part of Cochin, passing through fishing villages, paddy fields and small villages along the way. Break for lunch at a beach. After lunch, continue the ride and cross the harbour mouth at the Vypeen Islands, crossing over to Fort Cochin by ferry. Check into your hotel.

Day FOUR +-
  • DAY 04: Cochin
Total biking distance: 15 km Terrain: Plain
Explore the old quarter of Fort Kochi, visiting the many fascinating highlights of Cochin; including, the Jewish Synagogue; St. Francis Church, the oldest European Church in India; the Santa Cruz Basilica, which was built in 1557 by the Portuguese; the Dutch Palace; the Spice Market; and the 15th century Chinese fishing nets believed to have been brought by Chinese traders. In the evening, board a ferry to go over to the bustling part of Cochin, Ernakulam, and visit the Broadway and the busy bazaars.

Day FIVE +-
  • DAY 05: Cochin - Alleppey
Total biking distance: 60 km Terrain: Plain
After breakfast, start your cycling trail for the day. Leaving the busy roads of Fort Cochin, you will hit a beach road that will take you to the Raheem's Residency. Riding through the fishing villages and coconut plantations with the sea on one side is an exhilarating experience. Stop at Andhakaranazhy, a great stretch of beach, where you will have lunch. You will also stop at the Arthunkal Church by the sea. On arrival at the resort, relax by the poolside and spend the evening at leisure.

Day SIX +-
  • DAY 06: Houseboat
Transfer to you houseboat where you will embark on your private houseboat and cruise the backwaters, a splendid area full of canals, lakes and coves. Your houseboats, or Kettuvalloms, are luxurious boats with well-appointed bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms. You can sunbathe on the deck or observe the palm-fringed landscape from your cabins. Apart from the mesmerizing surroundings, it is the life along the backwaters that makes this a fascinating experience. The locals travel in canoes, and you will find vegetable sellers, fishermen and other traders bringing household goods door-to-door in small, wooden boats. As you cruise along the backwaters, ask your captain to stop at villages, paddy fields and other places en route.

Day SEVEN +-
  • DAY 07: Houseboat - Kollam
Total biking distance: 35 km Terrain: Slight gradients/mostly plain
Disembark at Alumkadavu, close to the coastal city of Kollam, and cycle to Fragrant Nature, eco-lodge, set in a typical Kerala village.

Day EIGHT +-
  • DAY 08: Kollam - Kovalam
Total biking distance: 45 km Terrain: Slight gradients/mostly plain
Start cycling in the morning and make the best of the cool early hours as we ride towards the great beaches in the South. We will end our cycling adventure at Kaniyapuram near Trivandrum and be transferred to Kovalam, one of the most popular beach destinations in Kerala, and check into your hotel. Kovalam consists of three adjacent crescent beaches separated by rocky headlands, of which the southernmost, Lighthouse Beach, is the most famous. The azure waters and favourable climate make Kovalam a favourite year-round destination for each lovers.

Day NINE +-
  • DAY 09: Kovalam
Have a day of leisure on the beach. Enjoy a rejuvenating full-body Ayurveda massage.

  • DAY 10: Kovalam - Trivandrum (25 km / 1 hr)
Departure transfer to Trivandrum airport for your return flight.

When Should I go?

Being a coastal state surrounded by the Arabian Sea and because of its proximity to the equator, Kerala has a more or less consistent temperature pattern in the summers and the monsoons alike. The temperature hovers around 29°C throughout the year with varying levels of humidity.

Monsoon Months in Kerala

June and July are monsoon months in Kerala, the showers being heavy at first and then easing off gradually. Whilst these are not the best months for tours, interestingly, this happens to the best time for travellers seeking the therapeutic Ayurveda treatment which is said to be most effective in these months.

Best months for travel to Kerala

The months of October through to March are considered to be the most favourable months to travel to Kerala when the weather is sunny and pleasant. The months of April and May are also favourable for travel but the humidity tends to be comparatively higher. August and September are also good months for travel.
