Résidence de l'Evêché

Overview

Why stay at Résidence de l'Evêché

Résidence de l'Evêché is a landmark in the heart of Pondicherry's French Quarter. The street took its name from the Archbishop's house that once stood on it. The villa has been here since the 1790s and has passed through several owners, among them the Goubert family, after whom Goubert Market is named.

Restored to its old-world elegance, the pastel pink facade stands among quiet lanes where bougainvillea arches over compound walls. Indigo front doors open to white walls hung with contemporary art against period furniture, and a navy-blue staircase or a small lift takes you to the upper floors and their views over the quarter.

Two bedrooms have private balconies over the street and one opens on to a private terrace. There are wrap-around balconies, a mezzanine shaded by foliage, and oversized chairs for a quiet read. Promenade Beach, the Old Lighthouse, Aurobindo Ashram and Sacred Heart Basilica are all a short walk, and Auroville is nearby.
