Overview
The Belgadia Palace is the ancestral home of the Bhanja royal family of Mayurbhanj, opened to travellers as an intimate heritage stay in Baripada, Odisha. Built in 1804 and developed in phases, the palace reflects Victorian architecture with neoclassical, Georgian and Gothic influences. Today, it combines living heritage with contemporary comfort and a strong commitment to culture, craft and sustainable tourism.
The experience reaches well beyond the palace walls. Guests can explore royal collections, gardens and family stories, meet Dokra and Sabai grass artisans, discover Mayurbhanj Chhau, visit Baripada, venture towards Similipal for wilderness and birding, or simply slow down with yoga, afternoon tea, croquet and unhurried days in the grounds.
This is a particularly good choice for travellers who are curious about eastern India, heritage, craft, food and local communities. It works well as an unusual stand-alone retreat or as a distinctive stop between Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and the landscapes of Odisha.
