Gajlaxmi Palace

Overview

Why stay at Gajlaxmi Palace

Gajlaxmi Palace sits at the foot of Megha Hill near Dhenkanal, surrounded by private sal, teak and bamboo forest and two water bodies. The Art Deco country estate was built in the early 1930s by Rajkumar Sreeshesh Pratap Singh Deo and has welcomed guests as a heritage homestay since 2010.

The palace remains in the care of the family. Its individually furnished rooms, drawing room and long communal dining table retain the atmosphere of a lived-in country house, while fresh home cooking draws on local Odia flavours, family recipes and produce from the organic garden.

Nature shapes the stay. Host-led walks, forest bathing, birdwatching, watchtower visits and safaris reveal the surrounding woodland, where barking deer and wild boar are regularly seen and elephants move through seasonally. Longer outings can visit Kapilash Forest, Saptasajya Hills, Dhokra metalworkers, ikat weavers and Joranda Temple.
