Why stay at Isla's Ridge
The Palani Hills sit within the Western Ghats, part of the shola forests and one of the planet's richest pockets of biodiversity. At 1,200 metres the land is moist deciduous forest threaded with shrub savannah. Much of it was long ago turned over to plantation, and Isla's Ridge is an effort to return some of that land to its original form through rewilding.
The house brings together the charm of the hills, an artist's space and a small, attentive staff. Long walks through untouched country, a swim in the pool, a book from the library with locally grown coffee, food cooked fresh rather than eaten on the go. It is a place to slow down properly.
Getting there. Isla's Ridge is at Kattakadu, Manjalparappu, Perumparai P.O., Attur, Dindigul 624212, a couple of hills from Kodaikanal.
