Marli Hill Bungalow

Overview

Why stay at Marli Hill Bungalow

Ooty was once Ootacamund, home to the Toda people who named it othakal-mund, house in the mountains. The British made it a summer retreat and the architecture still shows it. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, runs through the town, and at 2,240 metres the Western Ghats setting is as ecologically important as it is pretty.

Drive up the winding road towards Marlimund and the air sharpens, the tea gardens shimmer, and the bungalow reveals itself slowly through the greenery on the hilltop.

Inside, the colonial frame carries modern art on big walls, light floods through tall windows, and there are corners everywhere to sit with a book. Six large rooms, a long dining room, wooden floors, sloping ceilings, antique furniture, and a gazebo in the garden for when you want to be outside.

Getting there. Marli Hill Bungalow is at 9A Cloud Nine, Snowdon Road, Marlimund, Udhagamandalam, Nilgiris 643001, about 3 km from Ooty town.
