Once the capital of the powerful Zamorin rulers of North Kerala and a prominent trade and commerce centre, Calicut was the most important region in Kerala in ancient times. The great voyager, Vasco Da Gama, landed here in 1498 putting it on the world map and paving the way for the west and for the many traders and invaders who followed suit.

Welcomed by a Kerala Travel Centre representative at the Calicut International Airport and transferred to your hotel. Check into your hotel, relax and unwind. Calicut, the traditional capital of North Kerala, is a leading trade centre for spices on the west coast. In the evening, visit the Hindustan Kalari Sangam, a traditional martial arts centre, where you can witness Kalaripayattu, the martial art of Kerala.

October to March, the sweet spot
Kerala is at its best from October to March, when the rain has cleared, the backwaters are full and the coast is dry. April and May are hot and humid but quiet, and the south-west monsoon from June to September brings heavy afternoon rain, deep green hills and the lowest prices of the year. Many Ayurveda guests deliberately choose the monsoon, when the treatments are considered most effective.
