December to April is the dry season and the most popular time to visit Costa Rica. May to November is the green season, with afternoon rain, fewer visitors and lush forest. The Caribbean side follows a slightly different pattern.

December to April is the dry season, with reliable sun on both coasts and the highest rates of the year.
May to November is the green season. Mornings are usually clear, rain arrives in the afternoon, and the forest is at its loudest.
Turtle nesting, whale migration and resident quetzals all run to their own calendars, so tell us what you want to see and we will time the trip around it.

Wildlife through the year
Turtles nest on different coasts at different times. Whales pass along the Pacific coast in certain months. Birds, sloths and monkeys can be seen all year. Tell us what you want to see and we will plan the dates and places around it.
A typical route
Many trips combine the Arenal volcano area, the Monteverde cloud forest and a stay on the Pacific coast, such as Manuel Antonio or the Nicoya Peninsula. Some add the Caribbean coast or the Osa Peninsula. Twelve to fourteen nights is a good length.
