Mountain shrines, red lacquer bridges and moss covered Jizo statues under towering cedars.
You are met on arrival and travel north into the mountains to Nikko, one of the great shrine complexes of Japan. The afternoon is spent walking between the cedar avenues, stone lanterns and vermilion bridges of a site that has been sacred since the eighth century.
