Where you'll visit

Pondicherry (or Puducherry), a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is now a Union Territory town bounded by the southeastern Tamil Nadu state. Its French legacy is preserved in its French Quarter, with tree-lined streets, mustard-colored colonial villas and chic boutiques. A seaside promenade runs along the Bay of Bengal and passes several statues, including a 4m-high Gandhi Memorial.

Day by day

Your itinerary, day by day

Welcomed by a Kerala Travel Centre representative at Chennai airport and transferred to Pondicherry where you can check into your hotel and unwind. Set along the Bay of Bengal, with delightful unspoilt beaches, this enchanting town is a throwback to colonial times when it was a French enclave. Today, Pondicherry is a blend of French and Tamil culture, making it a unique destination to visit. Those fond of European colonial architecture will enjoy the profusion of Catholic churches and distinctly French buildings, such as the beachfront Hotel de Ville. The French influence continues to the excellent French restaurants.

October to March, the sweet spot

Kerala is at its best from October to March, when the rain has cleared, the backwaters are full and the coast is dry. April and May are hot and humid but quiet, and the south-west monsoon from June to September brings heavy afternoon rain, deep green hills and the lowest prices of the year. Many Ayurveda guests deliberately choose the monsoon, when the treatments are considered most effective.
