About this Africa itinerary

This is the Kenya safari most people picture, done properly. You spend long enough in each reserve to see it change through the day rather than racing between park gates.

Our Nairobi team match you with a driver guide who stays with you for the whole trip, so by day three they know whether you want to sit with a leopard for an hour or keep moving.

Trip highlights

  • Elephant herds crossing the Amboseli marshes with Kilimanjaro behind them
  • Rhino tracking and flamingo flocks on the shores of Lake Nakuru
  • Two full days of big cat viewing in the Masai Mara
  • An evening with a Maasai family who work with the conservancy

June to October and January to March, the sweet spot

Kenya sits on the equator, so it is warm all year and the seasons are about rain rather than temperature. The long rains fall from late March to May and the short rains in November, both of which bring green plains and very few vehicles. June to October is the driest stretch and the classic safari window, with the migration in the Mara from late July to October.
